Batman
Personnage créé par Bill Finger (sc.) et Bob Kane (des.) dans Detective Comics 27 paru en mai 1939 pour la National Periodical Publication, qui deviendra DC Comics.Dans son adolescence, Bruce Wayne a vu ses parents assassinés sous ses yeux à la sortie d'un cinéma. Devenu adulte (et accessoirement millionnaire), il s'est juré de combattre le crime, et revêt pour cela un costume et une cape qui lui donnent une allure de chauve-souris. Batman étant l'un des rares super-héros à ne pas posséder de super-pouvoir, il compense ce manque par une collection de gadgets dont son costume est truffé, sans oublier la batmobile, le batplane ou la batcave qui lui sert de repaire.Par sa longévité, la série a vu se constituer une galerie de personnages hauts en couleur. Parmi ses ennemis, notons the Joker, the Penguin, the Clayface, Cat Woman, Harley Quinn et Two Faces. Il a aussi recruté un jeune assistant nommé Robin qui le seconde dans ses aventures, tandis que son majordome Alfred s'occupe du Wayne Manor.Batman possède sa version féminine, sous le nom de Batgirl, qui se trouve être la propre fille du commissaire de police Gordon. Batman fait aussi partie de la Justice League of America et il a été momentanément remplacé par Azrael (aucun rapport avec les Schtroumpfs).Parmi les auteurs qui ont animé le personnage, on remarquera tout particulièrement Neal Adams, Alex Toth, Frank Miller, David Mazzuchelli et Jim Lee.En France, Batman a été publié dès 1940 dans Grandes Aventures, puis dans les périodiques Tarzan et l'Astucieux. A partir de 1971, l'éditeur Sagédition se charge de faire vivre le personnage dans nos kiosques, tandis que les albums seront tour à tour publiés par Futuropolis, Aedena, Zenda, Comics USA et Albin Michel.Enfin, rappelons que Batman est probablement le personnage de comics qui a été le plus souvent adapté à l'écran dès les annés 40. Il nous est impossible de rappeler ici toutes ses apparitions sous forme de dessins animés, de serial (sorte de feuilleton diffusé dans les salles de cinéma), de téléfilms ou de films. Les plus marquants sont la série TV avec Adam West (Batman), Burd Ward (Robin) et Yvonne craig (Batgirl) ainsi que les deux films réalisés par Tim Burton.
